Rebellion of the panels shatters the conventional forms of comics into smithereens. The exhibition explores comics as spatial art, its possibilities and impossibilities, through murals, installations and multi-channel artworks, among others.
Included are works that rely heavily on storytelling, as well as works that exploit the possibilities of spatial comics and conceptual art. The perspectives range from the public to the private and the social. The artists interpret approaches to place, personal space, memory and home. A large selection of contemporary comics will also be displayed in more traditional formats in books and magazines for visitors to read.
Rebellion of the Panels celebrates the 20th anniversary of the comics collective Kutikuti. The exhibition features a bunch of Kutikuti’s artists: Sami Aho, Juliana Hyrri, Susanna Kesänen, Tiiha Lehikoinen, Apila Pepita, Hanneriina Moisseinen, Lauri Mäkimurto, Jyrki Nissinen, Hannele Richert, Aiju Salminen and Emmi Valve.
